Thunderstorm likely in Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana tomorrow says IMD

unexpected-storm-hits-north-india_66bd7f38-5198-11e8-96b3-108223915881NEW DELHI : Thunderstorm accompanied by squall and hail is likely to lash large parts of northern and eastern India besides isolated places in the south on Tuesday with winds gusting up to 50-70 kilometers per hour, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The IMD said, thunderstorm, accompanied by squall and hail, was very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Tuesday.. IMD warned that thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and moderate squall are likely to hit many states.
This morning, rains lashed Chandigarh and adjoining areas while Haryana and Punjab authorities remained on high alert following the IMD advisory. In the wake of the warning, schools in Haryana were ordered to stay shut for two days (May 07 and May 08).Some private schools in Chandigarh are also shut for two days.

Thunderstorm and hailstorm alert issued for Dehradun district for the next 48 hours. In the wake of the alert, all schools and Anganwadi centres in the district to remain closed tomorrow.

The IMD bulletin at 5 pm states: “Under the influence of a Western Disturbance, a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and a west­east trough from northwest Rajasthan to central Madhya Pradesh in lower levels, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds and moderate squall (speed between 50 to 70 kmph) is very likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours.
Hailstorm is also likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the same period. Thunderstorm observed at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir,  Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Kerala from 0830 to 1430 hours IST of today.
In Rajasthan, the Collector has issued thunderstorm alert for Bikaner for the next 3 days. Till tomorrow, there is a possibility of a dust storm and a thunderstorm in Delhi, Haryana, and several north Indian states.
In parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, there are chances o f rainfall and thunderstorm. Amount of rainfall recorded at 0830 hours IST of today (1 cm or more) are: Agartala­ 6; Kailashahar­ 4; Pahalgoan, Banihal, Kokarnag, Golaghat, Silchar, Noncowry­ 3 each; Gulmarg, Batote, Baderwah, North Lakhimpur & Honavar­ 2 each and Kupwara, Srinagar, Katra, Bhuntar, Gangtok, Rangia, Tezpur, Sohra, Golpara, Guwahati, Kohima, Imphal, Bramhapuri, Punalur, Thiruvananthapuram, Salem, Kodaikanal, Mayabander, Long Islands and Hutbay­ 1 each.
The bulletin issued by the IMD at 2:15 pm states that “under the influence of a western disturbance; a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and a west­east trough from northwest Rajasthan to central Madhya Pradesh in lower levels, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds and moderate squall (speed between 50 to 70 kmph) is very likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours.
Hailstorm is also likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the same period.”

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued tips to ensure safety during thunderstorms. The agency has tweeted a video explaining how citizens can keep themselves safe during thunderstorms and lightning.
* Fresh snowfall in mountains of Himachal Pradesh.
* Rains lash Chandigarh this morning. A few private schools in Chandigarh are also closed for two days in view of the warning.
* Thunderstorm accompanied with squall (wind speed reaching 50­-70 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, read the IMD’s warning.
According to IMD  the states likely to be affected by thunderstorms and gusty winds are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Karnataka, and Kerala.(With Agency Inputs ).
