Vikas Dubey wife richa1594472412079LUCKNOW: Just a day after Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter in Kanpur, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the matter.
The Uttar Pradesh government constituted a special investigation team on Saturday to probe the local police’s alleged connivance with slain gangster Vikas Dubey, a statement said.
Additional Chief Secretary(ACS) Sanjay Bhoosreddy will head the SIT, which will have Additional DG Hari Ram Sharma and DIG Ravinder Goud as its members, according to an official statement.
The SIT will submit its report by July 31 after looking into all the angles, studying all related documents and spot inspection in Kanpur, it said. The team has been asked to probe into what effective action was taken in all the cases lodged against Dubey, the statement said.
The SIT will also probe what action was taken to cancel the bail of “such a dreaded criminal”, what action has been taken against him under the Goonda Act, the National Security Act, Gangsters Act, and if there was any laxity and at what level, it added.
The encounter of gangster Vikas Dubey has created a nationwide stir with certain sections scrutinizing the death and alleging that it was a ‘staged’ encounter by the UP police.

Hours after the encounter, a Supreme Court advocate on Friday had moved the Allahabad High Court demanding a CBI probe into the matter. The plea before the Chief justice of Allahabad HC alleged that a fake extra-judicial encounter was carried out by the police in Vikas Dubey’s case.
Responding to the issue, BSP supremo Mayawati had also demanded a probe by the Supreme Court of India in the matter while former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi too alleged that the encounter had saved ‘several questions’ from arising.

SIT will probe gangster Vikas Dubey’s rise in the world of crime and how he managed to kill eight policemen in an ambush in his native village earlier this month, the Uttar Pradesh government said on Saturday.
The probe team will investigate intelligence and operational failures that led to the death of eight police personnel earlier this month, when they had gone to raid Dubey’s home near Kanpur.
“On the day of the incident, was there any laxity in collecting information regarding the criminal’s fire power. What was the level of the laxity, the police station had enough information? The SIT will probe this fact and will point out whose fault it was,” the UP government said.
After committing the crime along with his accomplices, Dubey had fled the village. On Thursday, he surfaced at a prominent temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, where he was arrested.

On Friday morning, he was gunned down by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force – which was bringing him back from Ujjain by road- when he snatched an officer’s pistol, following the accident of the car he was travelling in, the UP Police said.
