Shiv Sena’s MP Priyanka Chaturvedi will get a second term in RS?

NEW DELHI :  The upcoming elections for seven Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra have heated up the political atmosphere. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha term of Priyanka Chaturvedi, a leader of the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction, is also coming to an end. Priyanka Chaturvedi, who entered politics years ago against her husband’s wishes, now faces a threat to her MP status, as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is still unclear regarding the Rajya Sabha candidate.Based on the current number of MLAs, the MVA alliance can secure victory in only one seat, leaving uncertainty over whether Priyanka Chaturvedi, the fiery Shiv Sena UBT MP, will receive a second term.
However, Priyanka Chaturvedi has clarified her position on the questions surrounding her future. Speaking to the media, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “I would just like to say that I have received immense support from the public for the trust they have placed in me. Over the last six years, I have worked hard and raised public issues. My party has entrusted me with such a huge responsibility, for which I will always be grateful.” Priyanka said, “I will always be grateful and thankful that a woman who had no connection to politics got the opportunity to enter the Rajya Sabha.” Chaturvedi also reiterated that she will continue her work for the benefit of the country and the people, though she would not speculate on future prospects.
It is noteworthy that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprises the Congress (16), the Nationalist Sharad Pawar faction (10), the Shiv Sena Thackeray faction (20), along with smaller allies Samajwadi Party (2) and CPI(M) (1), which together hold the support of a total of 49 MLAs. Mathematically, a Rajya Sabha MP requires 37 votes, ensuring an MVA MP. Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP are keen to see their own MPs in the Rajya Sabha. Will Priyanka Chaturvedi get a chance from Thackeray’s Shiv Sena? The answer will only be known in the future. Priyanka Chaturvedi took a drastic step, angering her husband.
Before entering politics, Priyanka Chaturvedi worked as a director at Empower Consultants, a PR and event management company. Her husband was strongly opposed to her entering politics. When he learned of Priyanka’s decision, he categorically stated, “Politics is a very dirty place, you won’t be allowed to progress here, so stay away from it.” Before the elections, Priyanka joined Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT). Today, Priyanka is known as a successful MP and a sharp political figure, proving that despite initial opposition, she stood by her decision.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, a fiery Rajya Sabha MP from the Shiv Sena (UBT), met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August last year. Following the meeting, Chaturvedi, a Shiv Sena MP from the Uddhav Thackeray faction, shared a photo of her meeting with PM Modi on the social media platform X. Following her photo, speculation began swirling about her joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. Sharing her photo with PM Modi, she wrote, “I met the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament. I thank him for his valuable time and thoughts on various aspects of India’s rich cultural heritage.” Following this meeting with PM Modi, claims are circulating that Priyanka Chaturvedi may join the BJP.
