Rahul meets PM ahead of Congress core group meet

rahul-3 [1]NEW DELHI : Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who is keen on pushing key anti-corruption bills, on Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ahead of the Congress core group meeting. Rahul Gandhi met the Prime Minister for about 30 minutes before the party group chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi with the Prime Minister by her side began deliberations at Singh’s residence.
The Congress core group meeting has just now concluded. While the details of the meeting are still sketchy, sources have confirmed the anti-graft bills were among the topics discussed during the meeting.
The anti-corruption bill has been endorsed by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who wants it passed in Parliament in February. Rahul had also attended the meeting and the fact that he attended the meeting for the first time reflected its significance.
The slew of meetings by Congress leaders come in wake of the crucial AICC meeting on January 17. On Tuesday, the Congress had unveiled its 2014 poster campaign featuring Rahul’s anti-corruption plank. In the AICC session, Congress is likely to declare Rahul Gandhi as its prime ministerial candidate. Rahul Gandhi had on Tuesday said in an interview to Dainik Bhaskar that he was ready to take charge as the party’s PM candidate if the party wanted him to.
