Rahul at Berkeley, CPI(M) yielding to Kerala, boorish TMC ink no easy route for State Congress’ alliance

rahul_gandhi_04_03_2016KOLKATA : As Congress twists back to dynasty – Rahul Gandhi to take over – the State party unit almost rendered politically irrelevant, in a dilemma which way the alliance will go.

Besides a change in leadership – the Pradesh chief may get changed – the state leadership insiders would believe with whom to go would be the toughest choice for the state Congress!

If central leadership leans on Left, Bengal Congress insiders believe the Kerala lobby now led by Prakash Karat would be an impediment. As for example, the Congress was ready to help Sitaram Yechury to get through for Rajya Sabha by Karat backed Kerala lobby spiked the move and party’s Bengal lobby could not prevent it. On the other hand, if party leadership decides to tie its knot with the TMC things would stand no better with party workers whose numbers are not growing!

Most importantly what worries state Congress is a section media, no matter how small and social media, especially trends in tweets are condemning dynasty rule of Congress which “they feel is infecting all political establishments in India and Bengal.’’ And Rahul’s Berkeley speech `distorting India didn’t help instead dampened the mood for Congress.’

However, a senior Pradesh leader told this writer: “Even Mamata Banerjee have chosen her nephew as a party leader, A Banerjee, but nobody blames her why they should blame us?’’ Yet it isn’t so simple, says another leader. Thus unclear alliance signaling, Rahul’s Berkeley misadventure seems to have left a clouded political vision for Pradesh Congress which is becoming politically endangered!
