Priyanka Chopra terminates contract with Nirav Modi’s brand

chopra_660_022318053155NEW DELHI : Actor Priyanka Chopra has terminated her contract as global brand ambassador of Nirav Modi Jewels in the light of the allegations of financial fraud against Mr. Modi. She had said she was seeking legal opinion on the matter.
“In the light of recent allegations, Priyanka Chopra has chosen to terminate her contract with the Nirav Modi brand,” Ms. Chopra’s spokesperson said on February 23.
Priyanka Chopra, who featured in one of the advertisement campaigns for Nirav Modi, has terminated her contract with the brand in light of allegations of a Rs11,400 crore PNB fraud against the billionaire jewellery designer, the actor’s spokesperson said on Friday.
Earlier this month, the state-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) said it had detected a Rs11,400 crore fraud where Nirav Modi allegedly acquired fraudulent letters of undertaking (LoUs) from the Brady House branch in Mumbai to secure overseas credit from other Indian lenders. The actor had appeared in a TV commercial for the brand along with Sidharth Malhotra.

“In light of recent allegations, Priyanka Chopra has chosen to terminate her contract with the Nirav Modi brand,” Priyanka’s spokesperson said in a statement. Sidharth had earlier told  that since his contract with the brand was already over, he will not seek any legal action.Priyanka-Chopra-10
Actor Bipasha Basu, who featured in Gitanjali Gems advertisement, has claimed that the brand, owned by Modi’s uncle Mehul Choksi, continued to use her pictures even after her contract expired. Her spokesperson, however, has clarified that she was not seeking any legal action against the company.

” Priyanka’s spokesperson said in a statement, following earlier reports of the actor considering the same. According to reports, the actor who has become a global face now and commands a huge fandom across the globe does not want to be associated with Modi and urged her lawyers to find a way out.
Priyanka Chopra become the brand ambassador of Nirav Modi Jewels in January 2017 and has done several print campaigns for the brand. She also did the “Say Yes, Forever” ad film made for Modi by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The romantic “proposal film” starred Siddharth Malhotra with Ms. Chopra and was directed by Shakun Batra of Kapoor And Sons  fame.

Ironically, at the time of the appointment as an ambassador, she had said: “My association with Nirav Modi is like a meeting of minds in many ways. We are both fiercely proud of our heritage and are united by the idea of bringing a modern India to the global forefront.”  (With Agency Inputs ).
