sonia rahu -priyankaNEW DELHI/ LUCKNOW: Another letter ‘bomb’, this time from Uttar Pradesh, is set to cause a major embarrassment for the Congress. Asking Sonia Gandhi to “rise above the affinity for the family. “Parivaar ke moh se utho” — the four-page letter sent by expelled party leaders to Sonia read.
Nine leaders expelled from the party last year in their letter to party interim president urged her to rise about the family and save the party before it slips into “history”.
In a veiled attack on the general secretary in charge of UP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the four-page letter urges Sonia Gandhi to rise above family –“parivaar ke moh se upar uthe”- and restore the democratic traditions of the party.

Nine senior Congress leaders, expelled from the party last year, have sent a letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi asking her to save the party before its slips into “history”.
In a veiled attack on Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is the party general secretary in charge of UP, the four-page letter urges Sonia Gandhi to rise above family -“parivaar ke moh se upar uthe”- and restore the democratic traditions of the party.

The letter, signed by former MP Santosh Singh, former minister Satyadev Tripathi, former MLAs Vinod Chaudhary, Bhoodar Narain Mishra, Nekchand Pandey, Swayam Prakash Goswami and Sanjeev Singh, says that the Congress is passing through its ‘worst ever’ phase in Uttar Pradesh. ‘Save the party before its slips into history’
The leaders claimed in the letter that they have been seeking an appointment to meet Sonia Gandhi from the past one year but it has been denied.
‘Priyanka does not bother to meet leaders outside her coterie’
They further claim that the party posts are currently being occupied by people who are working on a salary basis and are not even primary members of the party.
“These leaders are not familiar with the party’s ideology but are tasked to give direction to the party in UP,” the letter says. The letter further says that these people are assessing the performances of those leaders who stood like a rock in the Congress during the 1977-80 crisis.
Sonia Gandhi during the recently concluded CWC meet Congress snubs letter-writers as Sonia Gandhi makes key appointments in Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha committees.

“There is an apprehension that you are not being apprised of the prevailing situation by those in charge of state affairs. We had appealed against our expulsion which was illegal but even the central disciplinary committee has not found time to consider our appeal,” the letter says.
“Democratic norms are being thrown to the winds and senior leaders are being targeted, insulted and expelled. In fact, we were informed of our expulsion from the media which speaks of the new work culture in the state unit.”
Issuing a warning to the high command, they have said that if it continues to turn a blind eye to the prevailing state of affairs, the grand old party would hit rock bottom in UP which was once the party’s stronghold.
The letter reads, ‘rise above the temptation of the family’ and re-establish the party’s democratic traditions. The letter urges Sonia to run the organisation by establishing mutual trust and restoring the constitutional and democratic values of the party.

“If you deviate from your responsibilities, then Congress will become a thing of the past,” they said. “Today, Congress is facing uncertainty, indecisiveness, lack of communication, and lack of expression of thoughts, and is passing through a difficult phase of existential crisis.”
The letter invoked the democratic values with which Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had built the Congress party and the country. The letter stated that it was ironical that the way in which the party is being run, there is confusion and depression among ordinary Congress workers, they added.
“At a time, when the country’s democratic values and social fabric is lying scattered, the need of the country is that Congress remain alive, dynamic and strong.
You please rise above the affinity for the family, and as per tradition, restore the expression of thoughts, constitutional and democratic values, and run the organisation by establishing communication and mutual trust,” the leaders urged Gandhi.
This letter written by veterans Congress leaders from UP, comes just days after a similar letter was written by 23 senior Congress leaders to Sonia.
That letter had stated that the uncertainty regarding party’s leadership has “demoralised Congress workers”. They also said over-centralisation and micro-management have always proven counter-productive.
