[1]NEW DELHI : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is eyeing to win big under the leadership of Narendra Modi in the upcoming General Elections, has a big reason to smile, as a pre-poll survey has indicated that the principle opposition party is expected to win 41-49 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP had won only 10 seats in the 2009 elections.
The electorally crucial state UP sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha. The Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi is projected to bag 4-10 seats, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) 10-16 and others managing 2-6. The ruling Samajwadi Party is heading for a dismal performance and will have to settle with 8-14 seats. At present SP has a strength of 22 MPs.
After sweeping Rajasthan in the recent Assembly polls, the BJP is expected to win 20-24 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats.
After registering an impressive win in the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seems to continue its dream run in the national capital. The survey projects AAP to win 4-6 seats of the 7 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP will bag 1-3, while the Congress not likely to win a single seat.
A survey conducted by a news channel on Thursday claimed the BJP to sweep Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and make big gains in Maharashtra in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
Modi has surged way ahead of his nearest rivals in the prime ministerial race before the upcoming General Elections, according to another survey conducted by the news channel.
The survey says that Modi is the most popular candidate for the top post with 30 percent of the electorate likely to vote for him. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was favoured by 9 percent, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by 3 percent and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by 15 percent. Incumbent PM Manmohan Singh is the least popular with only one percent votes.
However, another survey presents a worrisome picture for the BJP. The survey indicates that the principle opposition party will find going tough in south and east India, except Bihar.
