NEW DELHI:  Prateek Yadav, the step-brother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and step-son of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, has recently come into the spotlight due to one of his Instagram posts. In this post, he announced his intention to divorce his wife Aparna Yadav, bringing his personal life back into the headlines.

Married after a 10-year relationship
According to reports, their relationship began in 2001 when Prateek expressed his feelings for Aparna after getting her email ID at a birthday party. The couple was in a relationship for 10 years before getting married and knew each other since their school days.

Before the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, she left the Samajwadi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2017, she contested the Lucknow Cantt assembly seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket but lost to BJP candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi. She was seeking a ticket again in 2022 but joined the BJP before the elections. After a long wait, in September 2024, she was appointed Vice Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission.
