Media can play greater role in restoring values despite pressure

 mountMOUNT ABU: The three- day conference on the media’s role in restoring values in the society concluded on June 9 in Mount Abu.  The conference which was organized by Brahma Kumari’s media and research Foundation deliberated on the steep decline in the human values in the society and how they can be restored by effective intervention by the media. Hundreds of media personnel from Indian and abroad participated in the conference.
In his speech the prominent journalist and the member of the Press Council of India, Rajeev Ranjan Nag said that people of this country inherited certain set of values from great personalities and rich cultural heritage but the current generation has jettisoned them.
He said that today the country can boast of 820 TV channels and 85,000 newspapers but the literacy has not increased correspondingly. He lamented that amid the cut-throat competition among the media houses values are taking a back seat.
Commenting on the current political scenario in the country, BK Karuna said that the media has undoubtedly made its presence felt, She praised media’s role in raising the issue of corruption brought into focus by anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare though Lokpal. She said that media provided a huge impetus to this movement which finally resulted in the ouster of UPA regime. She expressed hope that media would continue to play a positive role in restoring traditional values in the society.
Earlier the director of Zee group’s Spiritual Global Foundation KG Suresh said that it was wrong to blame the newspapers and the TV news channels alone for the decline in values as entertainment channels are bigger part of this malaise. He said that these channel are dishing out stuff which is completely out of sync with our culture.
The media conference was inaugurated by the joint chief of the organization Dadi Ratan Mohni by lighting lamp. She exhorted the media to play a positive role in realizing the concept of Ram Rajya.
The coordinator of the Gyan Sarovar BK Mohan Singhal introduced the organization to the gathering. The head of media wing BK Om Prakash said that the educational institutes are producing good and talented engineers and doctors but are not doing enough to teach and promote values.
The editor of Samvet Sikhar Madhukar Dwedi said that  peace is the basis of all positive actions and the Brahmakumaris are doing doing an excellent job in propagating peace throughout the world. Dr Nirmala, director Gyan Sarovar said that declining in human values are matter of great concern for the entire world.
National coordinator of Media Mulya Abhkrama Samiti Kamal Dixit said that the entire society yearns for change and the recently concluded Lok sabha elections are a manifestation of this change. He said that media can play a major catalyst in bringing about this change.unnamed
Vice-President of the education wing Mritunjaya reminded the gathering of the role media played in the highlighting the anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare.   The editor of Web Duniya Jaidev Karnik said that people have been pointing fingers at the integrity of the media for the last one decade and  it is high time the media showed mirror to themselves for greater introspection.
