index [1]NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die last evening, two days ahead of the scheduled date. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the house sine die shortly after Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh’s reply to the discussion on the situation arising out of drought and water scarcity in the country.
In her valedictory speech, Mrs Mahajan said, in the recent past, it was the first session in which the House was not adjourned even for a single minute due to interruptions.

She said, during the session, there were 13 sittings spread over 92 hours and 21 minutes. During the session, 10 Bills were passed including the Regional Centre for Biotechnology Bill, the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Bill, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 and the Anti-Hijacking Bill.

The Budget Session of Parliament, which began as a new session on 25th of last month, is likely to end today with the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha sine die. Sources said, it has been done in view of the last leg of campaigning for assembly elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pudducherry and after the passage of Finance Bill yesterday, there was no official business left for the current session.

The first leg of Budget Session of Parliament began on 23rd February and concluded on 16th March. There was the scheduled recess between the first and second part. However, the session was prorogued to allow promulgation of an ordinance to bring and pass a Vote on Account for Uttarakhand, which was under President’s rule.
