India reports 991 new cases, 43 deaths in 24 hours

kovidNEW DELHI : The number of coronavirus cases in India reached 14,792, and the death toll jumped to 488 on Saturday. According to the Health Ministry, close to 2000 people have recovered from the deadly illness.
The number of coronavirus cases has reached 3,323 in Maharashtra, the most affected state both in terms of infections and deaths. At least 20 Indian Navy personnel in Mumbai have tested positive for the viral infection. The personnel are part of the INS Angre, a logistics and support facility of the Western Naval Command.

The cases saw a jump by 991 and 43 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate in India saw its highest spike on Saturday.  Maharashtra remained the worst affected state with COVID-19 positive cases rising to 3,202. There have been 286 new cases in Maharashtra, including 177 new cases in Mumbai, during the last 24 hours. There have been 7 deaths in the state during the last 24 hours. The death toll now stands at 194.
Gujarat on Saturday reported the highest single-day spike of 280 in COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of the infected people in the state to 1376, a Health department official said. Ahmedabad alone accounted for 239 coronavirus positive cases. The city now has 862 such cases, the official added.
while, 125 fresh cases have been reported in Uttar Pradesh, taking total number of cases to 974 out of which 108 patients have been cured & 14 others died. 26 patients have been discharged from the hospital in last 24 hours
No deaths reported in any district of Madhya Pradesh today. The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 1402 – including 69 deaths, 127 discharge). 59 people have cured and discharged in the last 24 hours.
According to Union Health Ministry directed that there should not be any dilution of quality and standards in the manufacturing of personal protective equipment (PPEs), masks, ventilators and other equipment.
The COVID-19 infection has affected around 185 countries around the world and as per Johns Hopkins University latest data there are 2,240,768 confirmed cases recorded with 153,871 deaths.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said there had been a slight decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases in National Capital in the last three days and hoped that it would reduce further in the coming days. Kejriwal said that out of 2,274 samples tested, only 67 people tested positive for the novel virus on Friday.
A few days earlier, the daily tally of infections ranged between 180 and 350. “Some people have been seen on streets in containment areas. Yesterday, 26 members of one family tested positive for coronavirus in an area in Jahangir Puri which has been declared as containment area,” Kejriwal said.
On Friday, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in Delhi rose to 1,707, with 67 fresh cases and four deaths being reported in a day.

Mr Kejriwal on Saturday announced that the state government will give Rs 1 crore to the kin of those who die during dealing with the coronavirus patients.  Kejriwal said, “If any doctor, nurse, a sanitation worker at hospitals, lab technician contracts the infection and dies due to it, while attending to the patients of COVID-19, then the Delhi government will give a compensation of Rs 1 crore to their family.”
