modi-story-fb_647_050816060227KANYAKUMARI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the fruits of development will not reach the poor till corruption is not eliminated. Addressing a BJP election rally at Kanyakumari this evening, he said the previous UPA government was indulging in various scams ranging from 2G, coal and procurement of chopper. However, the BJP-led Government at the Centre is free from any corruption charges.
Saying that youth development is the BJP goal, Mr Modi said some leaders talk of the poor during election times whereas the BJP always works in their interest. The day being the Mothers’ Day, Prime Minister Modi promised his government would give 5 crore free LPG connections for poor families to free the women from the health hazards of firewood.
He also informed that the Colachel port preliminary works at the cost of Rs 21 crore in Kanyakumari districts has already begun and assured quality road connecting the southernmost town with Thiruvananthapuram will be established to promote tourism. Meanwhile, many other political leaders addressed rallies in different parts of the state.
AIR correspondent reports, Prime Minister Modi in his Kanyakumari address took an indirect dig at the AIADMK government saying the Centre does not put its stamp on welfare measures. He said for every kilo of ration rice, the Centre shares Rs 27 for the poor, irrespective of who gets the credit.
Meanwhile, AIADMK leader and chief minister Ms Jayalalithaa at Thanjavur this evening charged the previous UPA regime and the present BJP government at the Centre of not forming the Cauvery Management Board and Water Regulatory Authority as directed by the Tribunal. She also blamed the DMK of betraying the state’s interest on the issue.
Both Mr Modi’s and Ms Jayalalithaa’s criticism against each other’s governments have come at a time when Congress chief Sonia Gandhi remarked in Chennai recently that both the parties enjoy a tacit understanding.
