Five Delhi markets to become ‘world class’: Arvind Kejriwal

NEW DELHI : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced his government has earmarked five big markets in the city for redevelopment and the works will be soon put in motion.he move will not only amp up struggling businesses, but also generate lakhs of jobs in the country as it battles a high unemployment rate. All these markets are located at strategic locations in Delhi, and draw lakhs of visitors on a daily basis.
During a media briefing, he said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government took suggestions from market associations and after much deliberations, five markets have been selected for redevelopment.
The selected markets are – Kamla Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and Khari Baoli. These areas will be redeveloped to a world-class standard and an announcement regarding their designs will be made in the next six weeks.. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a virtual address on Monday. The Lajpat Nagar market is known as a high-end street fashion hub, and a one-stop destination for wedding planners. The Sarojini Nagar market is famous for its fast fashion collections, while the Kirti Nagar market is a popular destination for furniture and house decor,

Mr Kejriwal said that the five markets have been selected for Phase 1 of the ‘markets redevelopment’ programme, an initiative that the Delhi government unveiled in its annual budget for 2022-23. Other major markets in the capitKejriwal said the five markets will be redeveloped with world-class designs.The Delhi CM opined that the new-look markets will not only draw tourists and buyers from across the world, but they will also boost employment in the national capital.
This is in accordance with the announcement in the ‘Rozgar Budget’ to create more job avenues. Under the Delhi government’s project, markets will be beautified and civic amenities enhanced so that footfall increases as does business. It should be noted that the Delhi government has recently redeveloped the Chandni Chowk market and received largely positive reviews for the planning and execution.
Earlier today, the Delhi government decided to extend its anti-open burning campaign till June 30. The decision was taken at a meeting to review the implementation of Delhi’s summer action plan to fight air pollution.
