CWG- 2018: Delhi girl Shooter Shreyasi Singh Bags Gold Medal in Double Trap

15234297175acdb155009f2GOLD COAST: Shreyasi Singh held her nerve and produced some excellent shooting to win the women’s double trap gold medal in the 21st Commonwealth Games on Wednesday. Shreyasi shot 96 in the finals and beat Australia’s Emma Cox 2 shots to 1 in the shoot-off at Belmont Shooting Centr.
The other Indian contender in the field, Varsha Varman finished fourth with 86.The bronze medal went to Scotland’s Linda Pearson who shot 87 to finish a point ahead of Varsha, who held the third place for a while.
The 26-year-old Shreyasi, thus, improved on her silver medal-winning effort at the Glasgow Games four years ago.Shreyasi was on the second position while Varsha was on the third position after three round.Recently, she won a silver medal in the double trap event at the 2017 Commonwealth Shooting Championships.

The current medal count on the Day 7 of the 21st edition of the 2018 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Australia’s Gold Coast on Wednesday.
Australia continues to dominate the tally with 52 Gold, 39 Silver and 42 Bronze medals (133), followed by England with 24 Gold, 30 Silver and 21 Bronze medals (75). With 12 Gold, 4 Silver and 8 Bronze so far, India are currently third in the overall ranking (24). Shreyasi Singh bagged a Gold – India’s 12th overall – in the women’s double trap event at 21st edition of the 2018 Commonwealth Games here. Earlier, shooter Om Prakash finished third to settle for a bronze medal in men’s 50m Pistol event. With one Gold and two Bronze on Day 7, India’s total medal count currently stands at 24.

New Zealand (9, 10, 8), South Africa (9, 6, 6) and Canada (8, 21, 15) are on the fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively though they have won more medals. These countries have got lesser number of gold medals than India.
On Tuesday, Indian shooter Heena Sidhu clinched a Gold – Eleventh for India – in 25-m pistol event. Sidhu also broke the Commonwealth Games record on her way to clinching a Gold in the women’s 25m pistol shooting event here.(With Agency Inputs ).
