BJP’s Navya Haridas reaches Kerala High Court against Priyanka Gandhi’s election

NEW DELHI : BJP leader Navya Haridas has filed a petition in the Kerala High Court challenging the election of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in the by-election held  last month . Navya lost to Priyanka by a significant margin of over five lakh votes.
Navya has claimed that the Congress MP has given wrong information about the property owned by her and her family. This violation of the Model Code of Conduct amounts to corrupt conduct. As a result, the election should be canceled.

Navya Haridas has alleged in her petition that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not give proper details about her and her family’s property during the nomination process, and gave “wrong information”. “We have filed an election petition in the High Court yesterday against Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra,” Haridas said in an interview. “Her nomination papers were misleading and crucial details, particularly about her family’s assets, were concealed,” the petition said.
The petition, filed by advocate Hari Kumar G Nair on behalf of Haridas, has sought the cancellation of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s election. Crucial information about properties owned by Priyanka and her family members was suppressed, thereby misleading voters. The Kerala High Court is expected to hear the case in January.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders were quick to react to the petition, calling it a politically motivated attempt to gain publicity. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari criticised the petition, calling it an act of “cheap popularity”. Another Congress leader Manickam Tagore defended Priyanka Gandhi, saying the BJP has the right to file such a petition, “but we are confident that the truth is on our side.”
In her nomination papers, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has disclosed assets worth over ₹12 crore, which includes movable assets worth ₹4.24 crore and immovable assets worth ₹7.74 crore. Her listed liabilities are ₹15.75 lakh. The Congress leader also gave details of her husband Robert Vadra’s assets, which include movable assets worth over ₹37.9 crore and immovable assets worth over ₹27.64 crore.
Priyanka Gandhi’s nomination includes details of her residential properties, including self-acquired property in Shimla worth over ₹5.63 crore and agricultural land in Delhi. The declared assets also include precious gold gifted by her husband and a car.
